Electropulse destruction of rocks - joint pr. with the Royal Dutch Shell

Within the framework of a contract and collaborative work with the Royal Dutch Shell oil company electrophysical ways to remove paraffin from an oil well and to increase well production were studied. Multiple experiments in order to measure dynamic strength and dynamic crack resistance for different rock materials were also performed.

In these experiments magneto-pulse installation providing a possibility to create highly intense pulsed  loads was utilized to evaluate dynamic strength properties for granite, gabbro-diabase, marble, limestone, and other rocks. Another part of the experimental work included studies of fracture of rocks within liquid media. In these experiments fracture was created by highly intense electric discharge close to the interface between the solid (rock) and the liquid media.
